Chapter 4

“Where did all that power come from?” Brandon, who sat atop a large stone monument dedicated to the Goddess Lumina, questioned himself. He sat there in meditation, his feet draped over the Goddess’ face, his hands resting on the crown of the statue’s head, behind his body, supporting him as he reclined. Brandon looked around at his surroundings slowly, taking in the familiar and soothing scenery.

The statue of the Goddess Lumina stood in the midst of a courtyard while on either side stood a fountain and behind stood a fountain. The fountains represented the many unceasing gifts the Goddess had bestowed upon the kingdom and ornate symbols were engraved in the bottom of each of the three fountains to show that the gifts were equally shared among other realms.

In the fountain to the east was the first symbol; that of a lionesque figure, the symbol for Marileigh, the kingdom to the east, hidden deep within the Rentra mountain chain. The lion stood roaring up at the sky, showing its strength and authority to the heavens.

It was laid with the most brilliant of gold and shone as though it were the noon-day sun floating just under the surface of the fountain’s crystalline waters.
